LISDUFF REPORT
A strong demand for dairy breeding stock was evident  last Saturday at the annual sale from the Lisduff herd of pedigree Holstein-friesians owned by John O’Sullivan & Sons at Whitechurch, Co. Cork.                          

A very large crowd saw the two top prices of the day paid for two of the four bulls sold. The 13-month old Lisduff Levity an Oman son with an EBI of 170 and out of the Mascol sired Lisduff Lenora 11 that gave 9652 kgs @ 3.46% protein in her first lactation topped the sale at 4,500. He was immediately followed  for 4,400 by a second Oman son Lisduff Omentum  EBI 143 this time from one of the herds top cows   Lisduff Ellen 36 by Lord Lily, classified EX92 and with yields up to 12305 kgs @ 3.24% protein .

A very consistent trade for heifers saw the top price of 3,000 being paid for the Oman daughter Lisduff Mary 43 from the Duplex sired dam Mary 33 VG that had yields to 9435 kgs @3.7% protein. She was closely followed  at 2,900 by the Ramos sired  Dairybreiz 65 bred from the French-American cow family that produced the renowned AI Sire Hairybreiz. An Oman from the Leslie Family and a Ramos from the French originating Neottie family both sold for 2,750. The entire group of heifers averaged 2,250.

Heifer calves from the sale heifers sold to 1, 150 and averaged 920.

The animals were sold to buyers in Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Clare, Galway, Monaghan, Meath, Westmeath, Wexford and Waterford.

The PROMISE of PROTEIN Sale reaches top of 4,800 gns.

The Promise of Protein Sale which took place at Birr Mart,Co.Offaly on Thursday 15th July 2010 saw a very sound trade for deep pedigreed heifers consigned by Tim Fitzmaurice (LEAGH),Co.Kerry; John Cunnane (LYNBROOK) Co.Mayo & Trevor Lockhart (BALLYELLY) Co.Donegal.

Top price on the day was 4,800 gns paid for the May 2009 "OMAN" daughter LYNBROOK OMAN TRINA form John Cunnane's herd. Her dam by Jefferson is (VG-2YR) with a first lactation of 11,635 kg 3.90%BF   3.79%PR and her Gdam is Killua GB Baler (EX92-2E) with 15,004 kg 4.23%BF   3.80%PR in her 3rd lactaion.The 3rd dam is a maternal sister to the top Canadian AI bull Braedale Goldwyn at Semex.

Second high price of 4,200 gns was paid for BALLYELLY ROUMARE PIETJE a Jan'09 Roumare daughter of Ireland's No.1 EBI cow Leagh Oman Pietje (EX) with a 2nd yield of 12,311 kg 4.02%BF 3.72%PR.This heifer was backed by 9 gens VG/EX dams tracing directly to the dam of the famous Dutch AI bull Skalsumer Sunny Boy.

DALEVALLEY SKY HIGH PROTEIN SALE reaches 8,100 gns

Following the dispersal of the entire “Dalevalley” Herd in March 2007, Roy  and Heather Cromie from Castlfinn,  Co. Donegal continued their lifelong interest in the Holstein breed by implanting embryos in storage from the top Dalevalley cows families such as the Lulu. Royalty, Kimo and Rosena. Roy also selected embryos from High Component families in the USA and Canada.

A feature of the sale throughout was the High Components in the Pedigrees. The sale offered 4daughters of All Canadian Belfontaine Dundee Abigail(VG-2YR-Can) who completed her 1st lactation at 4.10% Protein

The success of his work was reflected in a very successful sale at Ballybay Mart on 9th June. A large crowd  witnessed a very brisk trade for deep pedigreed youngstock.

 The heifers on offer for the sale were presented in a very professional manner. The quality of the stock, deep pedigrees and sky high protein ensured that the ingredients were there to whet the appetite of all comers despite the present economic  climate.

The combination of GREAT COW FAMILIES & HIGH COMPONENTS

generated a top price of  8,100 gns and an overall average of 3,260 gns

The sale created great international interest with 4 heifers sold to

England & 6 heifers to Northern Ireland.


Topping the sale at 8,100 gns was an ultra fancy Feb'10 Picston Shottle

daughter DALEVALLEY SHOTTLE JOAN .Her dam, Jacobs Goldwyn Joan is a

Braedale Goldwyn daughter of VALLEYVILLE LHEROS JENN (VG89) who won

All-Canadian & All-American Snr -3Yr Old 2008.This heifer was purchased

by a Co.Monaghan breeder.

The combination of very high protein & great cow families generated

the days next top prices. The sale's 2nd High price was 6,000 gns for

DALEVALLEY FORTUNE ABIGAIL a Feb'10 To-Mar D Fortune of the ALL-CANADIAN

Belfontaine Dundee Abigail (VG-2YR) who completed her first lactation

at 4.60%BF and 4.10% PROTEIN. This heifer was purchased by a Co.Wexford

breeder. Next high price was €5,000gns for another daughter of the 4.10% protein 

Belfontaine Dundee Abigail(VG-2YR).This was paid for a March'10 

Braedale Goldwyn daughter and purchased by a Northern Irish breeder.


The” Glaslough” herd of David and Kenneth Boyd also consigned 5 lots of animals to the sale from elite cow families ,again with excellent Protein.The lots included the first ever member of the renowned Hillcroft Leader Melanine EX 96-USA to sell in Ireland

GLASLOUGH herd returned an average of 3,590 gns..

Also sold at 5,100 gns was David Boyd's Glaslough Million Liz an 

April'10 England-Ammon Million daughter of the 3.75% Protein Kanesbridge

Talent Elizabeth (VG88-3YR).

This heifer was purchased by a Donegal breeder.
