RULES:

Handler may show a calf in their respective class but the selected calf can ONLY be shown ONCE in the handling class.

Handler can show a calf in an age class above his/her age category (go up one).  The reverse is not allowed.

TO DO LIST:

All clubs are asked to bring an extension lead to the show

Accommodation can be booked in the Springhill Court Hotel

(Ring               056 7721122        & book under the IHFA reservation.)

The novice handlers class will be run again this year.  This class is open to those who have not qualified for the nationals within the last 3 years.  Entries will be taken on the day.

NEW CLASS:

This year will see the introduction of a clipping competition.  This competition will be held on the 29th of July (Wednesday) and will begin at 10 am and will be judged by the Handling Judge.  Each club is encouraged to enter a team consisting of two people, one of which must be 15 years or younger and the other person to be of any YMA age.  Each club is asked to bring along an extra calf for this competition.  The calves must be born in 2008.  They should have a full coat of hair and not clipped within the last 6 weeks.  All calves will be inspected before the competition begins.  Team points to a maximum 15 points are awarded for this along with a prize.

There is a time limit 70 minutes, by which time all calves must be fully clipped including top lines set.

This competition is designed to encourage young people to clip and prepare their own animals while also becoming proficient in the skills of clipping.  It is essential that all co-ordinators and club secretaries encourage members to put a team together for this class as it is essential that we promote the skills of clipping in order for the progression of the YMA in years to come.

Please find enclosed entry forms for both handling and calf competitions

as well as the clipping competition.

CMMS forms will be available on the day and I would ask you to have these ready for the department officials on Tuesday the 28th of July.

All co-ordinators and/or club members who can make it are asked to be in Cillin Hill at 8am on Tuesday morning to help to erect the stands and the ring etc.  Your help would be greatly appreciated as there is a lot of work to do on the morning of the show.

All club pens must be cleaned out on Wednesday morning before 10am.  Failure to do so will result in club disqualification for calf classes.

All clipping bays must also be cleaned out.

No nails to be inserted into the walls

Closing date for receipt of entry forms - Friday 17th July

Please forward to Helen o’Callaghan,

IHFA Office, Clonakilty, Co. Cork.

The Irish Holstein Friesian  Associations Young Member Association  (YMA) are  holding

their National Calf show at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny, on the 29th & 30th of July.  The show is

the highlight of YMA activities for the year with the best calves & handlers competing for
national honours.  The show will commence on the evening of the 29th with the handling

competition where the best of the countries handlers will compete for the title of champion

& for a place on the Irish team going to the European Young Breeders School in Belgium

later in the year.  The calf judging starts on the morning of the  30th featuring the cream of

the crop of Irish young stock all looking to see who will get the much coveted title of

champion calf for 2008.  Young Members Association's objective is to get young breeders
interested and involved in the various aspects surrounding breeding Holsteins.   Each young

breeder is affiliated with a club, who in turn must organise their own events, while integrating

with other young breeders.
Each club has a calf show whose winners are eligible to enter the National Calf Show.

The YMA also organises workshops where young breeders can see first hand demonstrations on

handling and showing.  Field evenings, stockjudging, tours and social events also take place in each club.
