All Ireland Awards 2019

The IHFA Awards Night took place at the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise, Co. Laois on Friday 31st of January. This year the awards were presented by the Chairperson of Glanbia, Martin Keane. Among the awards presented were the All Ireland Awards for 2019, covering nine classes; the IHFA Gold and Diamond Awards; the YMA Awards, which include Club of the Year, President’s Medal, Hall of Fame and Photography Competition.

Presidents Medal

Recipient of the YMA President’s Medal 2019 is Louise Sinnott, The Ballagh, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. Nominated by her local Slaney Club, Louise is the winner of this prestigious award, presented at the discretion of IHFA President, Patrick Gaynor. The President and C.E. interviewed nominated candidates taking performance and achievements within YMA over the previous year into consideration. Louise is a distinguished participant in YMA and has been actively involved from a young age. She continues to participate and helps out within her club alongside her professional career working in the I.T. sector.

Hall of Fame

The recipient of the YMA Hall Of Fame Award 2019 is Owen Laffan from the Limerick Clare Club. Growing up on the home farm near Kilfinny, Adare, Owen has been constantly involved with his local Limerick Clare Club. He served as a dedicated club officer including a term as Club representative on the National YMA Committee during which he had a near 100 % attendance track record. The Limerick Clare Club in nominating Owen for consideration of the Hall of Fame stated the following testimonial;
Owen’s unwavering intent to ensure the best for young members has not gone unnoticed by us as a club and we are deeply grateful. In particular we commend his endless enthusiasm and his solution-driven approach. Although no longer of YMA age, Owen devotes endless time and effort into the club and is always at hand for whatever task requires attention. We feel he is deserving of the Hall of Fame Award as he is truly a selfless patron of the Young Members Association.”

Photographic Competition

Clodagh Helen, Limerick Clare YMA Club, is the winner of the Photographic Competition. This is Clodagh’s second time to win this competition. Clearly she has a talent for capturing the moment and has a photography skill to get the most from her camera. Having qualified in zoology at third level, Clodagh now works at Ailwee Cave visitor centre in County Clare.

Club of the Year

The Carlow Kilkenny Club is the winner of YMA’s Club of the Year. This is a back-to-back success for the club in retaining the title won for the first-time last year. The award is based on club participation and achievement in the many YMA events throughout the past year. The diversity of events held by YMA captures the range of talents and skills which every Young Member possesses. These YMA skills events include stock judging, showmanship, clipping and photography. As the recipient of the Club of the Year Award, Carlow Kilkenny members will be presented with the IHFA perpetual trophy.
