Tullamore Show took place on the 250 acre Butterfield Estate, Blue Ball, on Sunday 11th August. Revived in 1991 it is now firmly established as the country’s largest agricultural show. This is the 28th National Livestock Show and is sponsored by FBD. The show is a marvellous spectacle and great thanks has to go to all the organizers and committees especially when you consider it is a voluntary effort. Over 600 volunteers and 30 committees are involved.

There was a generous prize fund of €175K to be won across dairy, pedigree cattle, commercial cattle and sheep. As well as being a livestock show a wide variety of other competitions and displays took place including Macra farm skills, forestry, vintage machinery, arts and crafts, artisan foods, farm inventions and much more including 750 trade stands. In the dairy section IHFA sponsored the Young Showmanship Challenge Intermediate and Senior classes as well as the Junior Holstein Championship.

Emma Behan of the Bonaghmore Herd, Rathdangan, Co Kildare, judged the Showmanship Challenge. Emma has come through the ranks of YMA having many accolades to her name including Champion Handler at the National YMA Handling & Calf Show and EYBS.This competition is going from strength to strength with 34 young handlers competing in the National Showmanship Challenge. The numbers are increasing year on year such is the interest.
