94.7 % clearance as Bulls average 4,677 gns with a top price of 6,600 gns

Market demand for quality bulls backed by generations of high performing Dams was very evident at the 51^st IHFA Premier Bull Show & Sale. Bidding was brisk and the trade overall was strong evidenced by a clearance of 94.7% as 18 Bulls from a total of 19 forward on the day sold under the auction hammer. It was commented positively by many in attendance that the selection of Bulls was very strong with a choice of quality bulls on offer to suit different milk production systems.

The Monamore “Blooms of 2025” sale for Thomas, Rhona & James Kelly conducted by Taaffe Auctions on Friday June 20^th last witnessed a red-hot trade for Monamore stock.  110 milkers forward on the day averaged 3,808 guineas. Seventy-six 2025 born heifer calves averaged 1,896 guineas.

The Leagh herd of Tim & Maureen Fitzmaurice and family, Ballyduff, Co. Kerry enjoyed a resoundingly successful sale of top-quality heifers and first choice (unborn) heifer calves on Wednesday June 4^th last. Conducted by Taaffe Auctions, the sale included premier first-rate consignments from the Cedarmore herd (John & Bryan O’ Connor, Kanturk, Co. Cork), the Lynbrook herd (John Cunnane, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo) and the Boroside herd (Melvin Masterson, Rathnure, Co. Wexford). The sale venue was Carnaross Livestock mart, Co. Meath.

The Donegal Holstein Friesian Breeders club annual sale of fresh calved heifers on Wednesday March 5^th witnessed a very brisk trade as 41 heifers sold for an average price of €2,841. The catalogue offering was once again to a high standard with a quality offering of top merit heifers assembled for the annual show and sale event organised by the club.

The Coolnagree herd of Seamus O’ Leary, Adamstown Co. Wexford and the Beechlands herd of Walter Crean, Enniscorthy Co. Wexford combined for a production sale of 60 fresh calved heifers at Waterford Ross Marts Ltd, New Ross, last Friday February 21^st.  This year marks the 3^rd edition of this joined production sale and the offering on the day again included numerous Red & Whites. A large crowd was in attendance and the bidding activity was very brisk from beginning to end.

The Eedy herd of Robert, Sylvia, Jason & Laura Helen enjoyed a highly successful on-farm sale of youngstock on Saturday August 31^st last. The sale was conducted by Taaffe Auction with forty-eight top quality youngstock lots catalogued on offer. The Eedy herd has enjoyed some tremendous success at National level in recent times with key cow families to the fore in this success and the performance of these families was recognised in a trade that was consistantly brisk and sharp throughout the sale.
